Co-owner and winemaker Gary Barletta was introduced to the joy of winemaking by his grandfather at a young age. Although just an amateur, making wine out of his basement in Syracuse, New York, his grandfather left an indelible mark on Gary’s life. That mark is the reason that Long Point Winery exists today.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Gary returned home to his native Syracuse. His decision to stay in the area to look for employment would change his life forever.

In 1981 Gary began his employment at Cortland Memorial Hospital (now Cortland Regional Medical Center)and there met his future wife, Rosemary. They eventually made a home together and Gary moved the wine equipment that he inherited from his grandfather into their basement. While working at the hospital he continued his grandfather’s legacy of winemaking. What was once just a hobby, turned into a passion, and soon Gary began collecting dozens of amateur wine-making awards.

As the critical acclaim grew, so did Gary’s dream of someday producing wines professionally. That dream was realized in January of 1999 when construction began for what would become Long Point Winery. Named after the section Cayuga Lake that it resides on, the winery today consists of 72 acres of premium grape-growing land. The eight acres of vineyard includes Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Franc and some Pinot Grigio. The wine list includes sixteen different wines and although they are known for the their dry red and white wines, they pride themselves on having something for all tastes.
